Proposed Changes to Parking in Brooklyn Village

PROPOSED BROOKLYN PARKING CHANGES – YOUR CHANCE TO COMMENT
In July 2024, representatives of Brooklyn Community Association (BCA) and Dangar Island League (DIL) met with Council, to discuss changes to parking restrictions in Brooklyn.
As part of these discussions, the BCA and DIL requested the existing accessible parking space on the northern side of Brooklyn Road to be changed with timed restrictions, and provision of two ‘1/4P’ parking spaces, to encourage parking turn-over for short-term trips.
Council has also identified that there are road safety concerns for vehicles turning around at the eastern end of Brooklyn Road.As such, Council proposes several changes to parking restrictions in Bridge Street and Brooklyn Road, to accommodate the requests of BCA and DIL, and to address the road safety concerns at this location.
This meeting of the representatives from Brooklyn and Dangar Island came about due to my amendment to Council – and is what I believe should occur to get better decisions from Council: bring the people most affected to the table to have their input in Council decision making.
These changes need feedback from all who may be affected: residents and businesses alike.
Here’s the detail of what’s proposed:
Council is proposing to make the following changes to parking regulations in Bridge Street and Brooklyn Road:
Change existing accessible parking space on Brooklyn Road outside the Community Centre to ‘4P accessible parking space’
Installation of ‘Roadside Hazard Markers’ at the eastern end of Brooklyn Road
Installation of ‘No Through Road’ sign on the northeast corner of the Brooklyn Road, Dangar Road and Bridge Street intersection
Install 10m long ‘No Stopping’ zones on the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection of Brooklyn Road, Dangar Road and Bridge Street
Replace two ‘4P’ parking spaces on the eastern side of Bridge Street adjacent to the existing Mail Zone with ‘1/4P’ parking spaces at this location
Extend existing ‘4P’ parking zone on the eastern side of Bridge Street up to the property boundary of 9 Bridge Street
A concept plan of the proposed changes is shown below and is also available on Council’s Have your Say website (link below).
Council invites your comments on the proposal by close of business Monday, 9 September 2024. The results of the consultation will be referred to the Hornsby Local Traffic Committee for consideration and recommendation to Council.
