Community Defib Project

What if you or a loved one, a friend or a neighbor had sudden cardiac arrest and an ambulance was not immediately available? What if access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), or commonly referred to as a Defib, was all you needed to survive or potentially save a life?

An AED is a device delivering an electric shock to cardiac arrest victims to restore the heart rhythm to normal.

Contrary to popular belief, sudden cardiac arrest can strike any person regardless of age, gender or health status and approximately 33,000 Australians die every year from this condition. The single key contributing factor to improving survival rates is the time taken to administer early CPR and defibrillation. Access to AEDs to respond within 10 minutes is essential and could save a life.

As a key initiative, the BCA is supporting the major project in Brooklyn to install 24/7 publicly accessible Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in town, by providing funding and participating on the project team.

The great news is that as of Sunday, 20 February 2022, every resident and visitor to Brooklyn is now a few minutes’ drive to access one of the four strategically located AEDs.

The Anglers Rest Hotel @ 216 Brooklyn Road (Cnr Bridge Street) – Steve and Narelle’s personal generosity together with the support by their Patrons of several raffles has raised the full $3,000 needed for the purchase of an AED.

Brooklyn Central @ 81-83 Brooklyn Road generously made available their business premises for public access 24/7- The AED was jointly sponsored through the fundraising efforts by the members of the Brooklyn Community Association ($2,500) and RW Corkery & Co ($500).

Fenwick’s Marina @ 31-33 Brooklyn Road has generously agreed to make their AED available for public access 24/7.

Hawkesbury River Marina @ 9 Dangar Road has generously agreed to make their AED available for public access 24/7.
