BROOKLYN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION The Brooklyn Community Association encourages all of our residents and business owners to participate in our meetings and events – we want you to be heard. This website is updated with current happenings and events, along with listing historical information so you can learn about this beautiful village. The BCA meets 4 times a year and invites key note speakers from Council, community groups and area specialists to provide analysis of the issues and stimulate discussions. CURRENT PROJECTS : working with Dangar Island, Mooney Mooney and Milson’s Passage community associations and Hornsby Council to address Peat Island redevelopment and allied issue running community workshops to address parking requirements in Brooklyn seeking residents’ requirements and potential solutions including specific allowance for residents, businesses, train travellers and river residents and providing to Council advocating for shared pedestrian/bicycle facilities and safer public access, culminating in new sections of the roadway and footpath production and circulation of the Gateway newsletter which reports on current negotiations with Council , upcoming and local events regular meetings with local and State Members to express the community views Join us and keep the community in Brooklyn. Parking Survey Results
In September and October 2022 HSC invited the community to have ‘Your Say’ on proposed changes to car parking management in Brooklyn. The proposed changes were based on the adopted Car Parking Management Study and Council’s requirements as land managers. A total of 466 surveys were completed both online and in paper-based form – of these 84 were Brooklyn Residents & Businesses. See below for a summary of survey results for further details

HSC Energy Saving Presentation
In Hornsby Shire, our home’s energy usage is collectively the largest contributor to Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the shire. Hornsby Shire Council have committed to a target of Net Zero by 2050 and have established a program focussing on reductions in both emissions and energy costs. With increasing energy costs for all households, meeting these targets can save some money and help to reduce emissions. Susie Smith, the Sustainability Officer at Hornsby Shire Council, shared with us how Brooklyn and River Dwelling households are doing compared to other Shire households. She will follow this with top tips and tricks to ensure you have the latest information on how you can save energy, and end up with some spare change too.

Lower McKell Park Accessable Bathrooms upgrade completed The Brooklyn Community Association (BCA) is excited to let you know that the accessible bathroom facilities at the Brooklyn baths are now complete …just in time for the warm and sunny weather that has finally arrived. Cars, Parking & Vandalism Its summer again and everyone is aware this is a time of year when the demand on parking in the Village, Lower McKell Park and Parsley Bay are at peak levels….we encourage all to be courteous and tolerant during this holiday Season and if at all possible please think about driving a little slower and or maybe parking a little further away such as in Upper McKell Park to allow access to parking for our youngest and the more frail within our community. Many of you have joined with us in expressing abhorrence at the recent incidences of vandalism of cars belonging to our river neighbours. These illegal acts have occurred in the vicinity of Dangar Road and lower McKell Park. We would encourage everyone to be vigilant and report any acts of vandalism to any personal or public property to the police and to council. If you see something, please say something. Community Defib Project
What if you or a loved one, a friend or a neighbor had sudden cardiac arrest and an ambulance was not immediately available? What if access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), or commonly referred to as a Defib, was all you needed to survive or potentially save a life? An AED is a device delivering an electric shock to cardiac arrest victims to restore the heart rhythm to normal. Contrary to popular belief, sudden cardiac arrest can strike any person regardless of age, gender or health status and approximately 33,000 Australians die every year from this condition. The single key contributing factor to improving survival rates is the time taken to administer early CPR and defibrillation. Access to AEDs to respond within 10 minutes is essential and could save a life. As a key initiative, the BCA is supporting the major project in Brooklyn to install 24/7 publicly accessible Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in town, by providing funding and participating on the project team. The great news is that as of Sunday, 20 February 2022, every resident and visitor to Brooklyn is now a few minutes’ drive to access one of the four strategically located AEDs. Hawkesbury River Lift Opening
We were very excited to be present at the official lift opening on 15th February 2021. No longer will the Community need to climb the almost 100 stairs to reach the Station. The lift will provide accessibility to all and perhaps encourage more to take the train to our village. Years of advocacy by everybody has resulted in a massive win for the community! We also are enjoying the upgraded plantings, curbs and the bright red crosswalk. There are plans for further planting and a tidy up to finish the lift area by the Council.
